CITY TO HOST 2ND EDITION OF ‘LET’S DISCUSS UTILITIES’

Citizens with questions about their utility rates and ways to save will have the opportunity to learn more when the City of Thomasville hosts, ‘Let’s Discuss Utilities,’ the most recent presentation in the popular community engagement series. The event will be held Tuesday, October 16th, from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm in the Harper Elementary School gymnasium.

“We hosted our first ‘Let’s Discuss…’ on Utilities last spring. With cooler months ahead, we felt another discussion regarding utility rates would be beneficial to our customers,” said Chelsie Cosby, Customer Experience Liaison. “We hope these types of discussions equip our customers with a better understanding of how their bills are calculated each month and how their usage can impact their bottom line.”

Cosby said that knowing how a customer’s usage impacts their utility bill is key for those looking for ways to lower their utility bills. “Customers have some control over how much energy they are using each month, so we feel it is especially important to provide money-saving measures that can be easily implemented at home,” she said. “Small changes can yield big savings.”

In addition, information will also be shared about how the City of Thomasville’s rates stack up statewide. “City of Thomasville customers actually have electric rates that are lower than the state average,” said Cosby. “This information is readily available online from the Public Service Commission’s website. During this event, we will briefly share how we stack up against other providers.”

Information will also be shared concerning the City of Thomasville’s new utility billing statements. “The City of Thomasville recently changed to a color-coded statement for better understanding of how bills are broken down,” she said. “While the new statements are easier to see how utility charges are allocated, we will still spend some time in this session helping our customers understand how their bills are calculated each month.”

Other programs designed to assist customers with improving their energy efficiency will be presented in the session as well. “The City of Thomasville offers customers several programs to save on their monthly bills,” she said. “We will be sharing information about these programs and also taking appointments for participants to meet with our customer care staff so that a detailed analysis can be made of their utility bills.”
