CITY OF THOMASVILLE OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN FINANCIAL REPORTING

The Government Finance Officers Association is pleased to announce that the City of Thomasville has received GFOA’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR Award) for its Popular Annual Financial Report. An Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is valid for a period of one year only. The City produces this optional report called the PAFR report to help the community members better understand their healthy financial status.The City of Thomasville has received a Popular Award for the last two consecutive years, fiscal years ended 2021-2022.

The City of Thomasville has a history of receiving awards for its financial reporting. “The government finance officers association has been awarding the city a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting for a few years,” said Cason. “It is the city's objective to maintain a consistent and transparent accounting process while generating comprehensive financial reports.”

The Award represents a significant achievement by the entity. In order to be eligible for the PAFR Award, a government must also submit its annual comprehensive financial report to GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program and receive the Certificate for the current fiscal year. Each eligible report is reviewed by judges who evaluate the report based on the following categories: reader appeal, understandability, distribution methods, creativity and other elements.

Chris White, Interim City Manager, expressed his gratitude to the entire Financial Services Department, led by Ashley Cason, for their dedicated service in preparing this report. "I must also acknowledge the City leadership team, various support departments, and City Council for their unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in managing the financial operations of the City of Thomasville," said White.
