CITY HOWL-O-WEEN DOG PARK EVENT SET FOR OCTOBER 29 Article Photo THOMASVILLE, GA – October 20, 2016 – City of Thomasville Community Relations, in partnership with Thomas County Humane Society, invites citizens to load up their furry friends and come out for a howlin’ good time. The annual Howl-O-Ween celebration will take place at the City of Thomasville Dog Park, located on South Pinetree Boulevard, across from the Southwestern State Hospital campus, Saturday, October 29, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This year’s festivities will include a photo booth for fall pet portraits and special contests for dogs. The celebration will include a doggie and me costume contest and other events, including fastest tail wagging, best sloppy kiss, and super silly pet tricks.

“The Howl-O-Ween celebration is one of our favorite events to host for our community,” said Senior Assistant City Manager Kha McDonald. “We have a great time throughout the afternoon and cap it all off with a ‘boo-tiful’ pet parade for all dogs. It’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in one of our community’s lovely parks.”

The Thomasville Police Department and Thomasville Fire Rescue will both be on-hand to offer safety tips and provide treats for everyone. Youngsters will also have the opportunity to sit inside a fire truck and learn more about fire safety with TFR. The Thomas County Humane Society will be on site with dogs available for adoption during the event.

For an added treat this year, the event will also feature a demonstration by “Shiraz” a Belgian Malinois who is trained as Human Remains Detection (cadaver) dog by her handler, Suzi Goodhope.

“Shiraz and Suzi have worked at the City’s Civil War Prison Site and they’ve been instrumental in helping locate unmarked graves at the City’s historic cemeteries,” said McDonald. “Kids and adults will be amazed to see how this unique dog works.”

Howl-O-Ween is free and open to the public. All dogs must be at least six months old and be current on all shots and vaccinations to use the City of Thomasville Dog Park. For more information about Howl-O-Ween, call 227-7001.
