“We are excited to kick off our 2021 First Friday Sip and Shop series on March 5th,” said Madison Eaton, Event Coordinator. “First Friday Sip and Shops are a well-loved community tradition that we are thrilled to bring back with health and public safety in mind. While this monthly series may be returning in a modified form, we are confident that our guests will be treated to great evenings in beautiful Downtown Thomasville.”

Music will be piped throughout the event area beginning at 6:00 p.m., providing the perfect atmosphere for guests to grab their favorite beer or wine from a participating downtown merchant and enjoy sipping and shopping throughout beautiful downtown. “Sip and shop attendees can enjoy the music as they stroll through downtown with their event cup and wristband,” said Eaton. “The extended shopping and dining hours offered by our participating merchants provide an opportunity for our community to enjoy all that downtown has to offer. In addition, our outdoor seating areas located throughout downtown invite our visitors to relax and stay awhile.”

Sip and Shop events were created in collaboration between the Main Street office, downtown merchants, and the Main Street Advisory Board. “The Sip and Shops were highly successful throughout December, assisting our local businesses with their continued recovery from the economic impact of COVID-19,” said Eaton. “Shopping local helps support our local economy and job market, giving strength to the unique destination that our downtown has become. These events are a fun way for guests to continue shopping and supporting the small local businesses that are the backbone of our community.”

Eaton says that all City sponsored events continue to follow the CDC guidelines for public health as well as the Executive Orders from the Governor. “Guests are encouraged to practice safe social distancing and good hand hygiene while enjoying their visit to downtown. Handwashing stations are strategically located throughout the downtown area, and all public restrooms and outdoor seating areas are also regularly sanitized,” said Eaton. “Providing our guests with healthy, safe, and socially distanced opportunities to support our downtown merchants remains a top priority for us.”
