Children, accompanied by an adult, can join in for story time at The Ritz Amphitheater, and there will be life-sized games, activities, sweet treats, and even a chance to enter a book writing contest. The full schedule will include:

June 14 - Storytime and Bluebell Ice Cream giveaways

June 28 - Storytime, Flowers Foods Giveaways and book writing contest

July 12 - Storytime and free lawn and life size games

July 26 - Storytime and Hot dog giveaways

Ricky Zambrano, Community Outreach & Recruitment Manager for the City of Thomasville, said, “This will be the first time the City of Thomasville hosts a kid's summer reading series. We are excited to join our community partners in an initiative that supports the current efforts of many organizations that are committed to making a positive impact on children’s literacy throughout our community.

Local community organizations such as Bluebell Creameries, Thomasville National Bank, Thomasville Humane Society, The Bookshelf, Literacy for Thomas County, Flowers Foods, and CNSNext have partnered with the City to create a fun way to help families remain proactive about tackling summer learning loss while boosting self-esteem and positive social skills through a summer reading series.

“Summer reading is crucial for a child's ability to not only retain information learned in the previous year, but also to grow in knowledge and critical thinking skills for the coming year,” noted Zambrano. “We’re excited about having some fun while cooperatively addressing small but impactful educational needs within our community.”
