DOWNTOWN THOMASVILLE CELEBRATES NATIONAL WOMEN’S SMALL BUSINESS MONTH

Posted on

Throughout October, the Office of Downtown and Tourism Development is celebrating National Women's Small Business Month. Before 1988, women needed a male relative to co-sign if they wanted to apply for a small business loan. Today, there are over 13 million women-owned businesses and counting. Downtown Thomasville invites locals and visitors alike to join the celebration of the achievements of female entrepreneurs and their lasting economic impact on our city.

"Considering that the Women's Business Ownership Act passed 34 years ago, it's a marvel that over half of our Downtown businesses are owned by women,” noted Angel Clemmons, Downtown & Tourism Development Coordinator for the City of Thomasville. “To witness the growth and development of female entrepreneurship in our city is a privilege, and we're thrilled to be able to celebrate their accomplishments."

On October 11, the Office of Downtown and Tourism Development invited all women-owned downtown business owners to enjoy a coffee and conversations event.

"Our office was excited to host our first ever National Women's Small Business Month event,” said Brandy Avery, Main Street Manager for the City of Thomasville. “It was a wonderful opportunity for our downtown business owners to network and learn more about each other's businesses. We look forward to hosting more opportunities like this in the future."

You can show your support for National Women's Small Business Month by shopping and dining at local women-owned establishments. Follow Downtown Thomasville’s Instagram and Facebook accounts for spotlights and features of Downtown women-owned small businesses throughout this month.
