The City of Thomasville announced today the launch of a new service to its customers: Tville TextAlert. Tville TextAlert is a new service offered by the City that allows customers to report electric outages and receive updates on outages through text messages on their mobile phone or device. And best of all, the service is free.
“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers a quick and convenient way to report a power outage. In the past, our customers have traditionally reported outages by telephoning our Outage Management System, but with this new service, reporting an outage will be as easy as sending a text,” said Director of Customer Service, Karis Mills.
Using Tville TextAlert to report a power outage allows the customer’s location information to be entered directly into the City of Thomasville’s outage management software via text message.
Andrew Wharton, GIS Systems Administrator said, “During times of high call volumes when there are wide spread outages, using Tville TextAlert will allow City of Thomasville staff to more quickly pinpoint the locations where the outages are occurring. Customers will also be able to receive updates on the status of the outage via text message through this service.”
Signing up for Tville TextAlerts is quick and easy. Customers should simply text TVILLE to 85700 (normal message rates and data fees from their mobile phone carrier may apply). They will receive a text asking them to confirm their service location(s). Customers may sign up to use Tville TextAlert for up to four locations.
These simple commands allow you to report and inquire about outages in your area.
- Text TVILLE to opt in to the Tville TextAlert
- Text OUT to report an electric outage
- Text STATUS to learn the status of your outage
- Text STOP to opt out of the service
- Text HELP for a list of command words
Customers signing up for Tville TextAlert from their mobile phone or device who receive a message that their location could not be found are asked to call Customer Care at 229-227-7001 to verify that their mobile number is entered into the Outage Management System correctly. Customers are, by default, opted-in to receive Auto Alerts which will let them know when there is an electric outage at their location(s), but must opt-in to Tville TextAlert to report outages or check statuses. Customers may opt out of Tville TextAlert at any time.
