Beginning Thursday, November 9, 2017, the Wastewater Department will close South Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive between Harris Street and Broadnax Street so that an aging sewer main can be replaced. During the construction period, local traffic will be accommodated to the maximum extent possible. Northbound thru traffic will be detoured east on Broadnax Street to Williams Street. Southbound traffic will be detoured at Harris Street to Williams Street, where thru traffic will continue south to Varnedoe Street, and then rejoin South Martin Luther King, Jr.
“We recognize the inconvenience closures of our streets and roadways can cause our citizens,” said Wayne Newsome, Assistant City Engineer. “Our crews will work as quickly as possible to complete the work and reopen this section of roadway.”
Construction is expected to be complete in approximately two to three weeks.
