As we give our final salute to Mr. Larry Davis and his service to the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church community kitchen, we want to share his answer when asked why he gives his time to help feed others. He said he feels this is a labor of love; he just really likes to cook and enjoys feeding people. He also shared that he stopped questioning the amount that his diners may eat long ago after a man told him once that he did so because he didn’t know when he might eat again. Such a simple statement can be quite humbling.
We can all learn from Mr. Davis and his desire to help not only feed his diners, but to also help them to feel good about themselves. Through his dedicated volunteer service over the last 11 years, he has shown what one man can accomplish when he has a heart to serve. We asked Mr. Davis what he wanted people to know about him and he said, “Only that I am a quiet guy that the Lord brought out of a bad time. I’ve lived my dream of being a good family man and good person.” Thank you, Mr. Davis, for showing us what the power of one man can accomplish.
