Corey Thompson, Battalion Chief/Chief of Training for Thomasville Fire Rescue, recently received the Instructor of the Year Award from the Georgia State Firefighters Association. Thompson was recognized during the 2023 Georgia Firefighter Recognition Day held February 7th in Atlanta.
“Training is the foundation of what we do,” stated Tim Connell, Thomasville Fire Rescue Chief. “Corey’s hard work toward continued training not only supports our officers but is an asset to Thomasville Fire Rescue. We are extremely proud of his commitment to serving our community.”
According to the Georgia State Firefighters Association, the Instructor of the Year demonstrates an ongoing commitment to Georgia’s fire service by teaching and encouraging others to improve themselves and/or their organization to pursue excellence. The award is given to an instructor that serves as an example to the profession, their department, their community, and their peers alike.
Thomasville Fire Rescue nominated Thompson for the award, with a state committee selecting the winner. He was the only officer in Georgia to receive the award.
Thompson has been a part of Thomasville Fire Rescue since 2012.
