EAST JACKSON RE-STRIPING TO BEGIN SUNDAY

Beginning Sunday, December 3rd, work will begin to re-stripe portions of East Jackson Street. The City of Thomasville announced the improvement project for East Jackson Street last month. According to City staff, the work is beginning ahead of schedule due to contractor availability.

“We received a request from our contractor to begin work on this project a week ahead of schedule,” said Wayne Newsome, Assistant City Engineer. “Allowing the work to begin now will help us to alleviate some of the inconvenience during the holiday season when we have many travelers in our area. Our hope is that the work will move quickly and we will return an improved East Jackson Street to our community.”

East Jackson Street from Pinetree Boulevard to Crawford Street will be re-striped. This will include all lane lines, turn arrows, stop bars and crosswalks. The work is being funded by a grant in the amount of $100,000 through the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Local Maintenance Improvement Grant.

“The project will include re-striping only; there are no lane reductions or other road changes included in this or any other project involving East Jackson Street,” said Newsome. He also said that the enhancements to East Jackson Street will greatly enhance driver awareness.

“The goal of this project is to improve driver safety along this heavily used roadway by enhancing visibility,” said Newsome.

During the construction phase, lanes may be temporarily reduced as re-striping occurs. “We understand the work may be inconvenient to motorists, residents and business owners,” said Newsome. “Our crews will work as quickly as possible to reopen any temporary closures so that the impact is lessened as much as possible.”

The project is expected to take approximately 3-5 days to complete.
