THOMASVILLE CITIZENS GREATLY BENEFIT FROM CRIME REDUCTION SYSTEM

Posted on

In June of 2023, the Thomasville Police Department launched the Flock Safety System to help reduce crime and gun violence by capturing objective evidence without compromising individual privacy. Recent data indicates that after the system’s first year of operation, the City of Thomasville has become a safer place to live, work, and play. Violent crime has been significantly lower since the system's launch.

The Flock Safety System partners law enforcement agencies together through software integrations thus allowing agencies to share and search captured camera footage to locate suspects and wanted fugitives. The system provides officers with real-time multi-agency information to better aid officer response, resolving cases that may have remained open or unresolved. The system's real-time information to officers in the field increases safety and awareness while responding to and investigating crime.

In May 2024, the Flock Safety System read over 2 million vehicle tags and alerted officers over thirty-thousand times to vehicles tagged in the national database for a variety of reasons. Of those alerts, TPD officers recovered five stolen cars, eleven criminal arrests, recovered $10,000 in property, and cleared forty-two cases.

“The Flock Safety System has been one of the best programs in protecting our community,” said Chief Wade Glover. “We consider it an asset if we can prevent one murder, one burglary, or one assault because it improves the safety of our city and potentially assists surrounding law enforcement agencies.”

Other cities throughout the United States currently using the system continually report declines in gunfire, gun violence, and gun crimes. “Now that our statistics show that the Flock System benefits the safety of Thomasville, we will continue to make great use of the program while monitoring and observing future outcomes,” noted Glover.
