The City of Thomasville Solid Waste Department will host their annual Spring Clean events Saturday, April 11th and Saturday, April 18th. Spring Clean events provide safe disposal locations for items not suitable for the landfill.
“Spring Clean events provide the community with a free and convenient way to dispose of waste without requesting a special pick-up service,” said Director of Solid Waste and Landfill Jimmy Smith, Jr. “Whether cleaning out the garage or doing a deep dive cleaning of the home, this event provides an opportunity to dispose of bulk waste or those items not suitable for a residential solid waste container.”
This year’s event dates and sites are:
- Saturday, April 11 from 8 am-noon at Balfour Park and Flipper Park
- Saturday, April 18 from 8 am-noon at Cherokee Park
All locations will accept electronics, appliances, computers, batteries, and mattresses. The Cherokee Park event will also accept hard to dispose of hazardous materials, like paint and household chemicals, that endanger human health and the environment when improperly disposed of.
“We are happy to provide this free service that helps keep our community clean and beautiful,” said Smith. “These events are also essential in curbing illegal dumping, ensuring that waste is handled safely rather than being discarded in an unauthorized manner or location.”
Participants will also receive free cleaning supplies. “In partnership with the City’s community outreach initiatives, we’re excited to once again offer home cleaning supplies to community members that drop off items on Saturday, April 18th at Cherokee Park,” said Smith. “We’re looking forward to assisting our community to spruce up their homes as the spring hits full stride, and as we prepare our city to welcome visitors for our upcoming Rose Show and Festival.”
Spring Clean events are open to all City of Thomasville residents. For more information on this event or to request special pick-up service, contact the Solid Waste Department at 229-227-7092.
