LANDFILL TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR WEIGHT SCALE REPLACEMENT

The City of Thomasville has announced a temporary change to the Thomasville-Thomas County Municipal Solid Waste Landfill’s Saturday operating hours. On Saturday, May 15th, the landfill will be temporarily closed to the public in order to replace its weight scales.

“Replacing the weight scales that are currently in use will allow us to continue to provide excellent service to our customers,” said Lee Thomas, Assistant Solid Waste and Landfill Superintendent. “Our scales have been in service since 2002, weighing an average of 500 to 600 tons of waste per day, and they have reached the end of their life cycle. We’d like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while this necessary replacement is made.”

In February of 2021, the Thomasville City Council awarded a bid of $56,400 to Advanced Scale Company at the recommendation of City staff. “Advance Scale Company offered the best overall package which includes the removal of the existing scales along with the installation of the new Survivor Series scales,” said Thomas. “We are confident that this improvement will allow us to continue to meet the needs of our customers.”

The landfill will resume regular Saturday operating hours (8AM-Noon) on Saturday, May 22nd. The landfill is located at 88 County Landfill Road.
