OPEN HOUSE FOR CHIP GRANT HOME SET

Posted on

Last summer, the City of Thomasville Planning Department began accepting applications for grants to help local citizens make the dream of home ownership a reality. Next week, the Planning Department will host an open house at one of the homes constructed through the 2016 Community HOME Investment Program so that other potential homebuyers can learn more about the program.

“In June, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs awarded $612,000 in grant-funding to Thomasville in order to build new, single family homes. The awards were made through the 2016 Community HOME Investment Program,” said Brian Herrmann, City Planner. “The CHIP program is designed to help potential homebuyers transition from renter to homeowners.”

The open house will be held on Thursday, November 9th from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm at 401 South Street. While the home that will be toured has already been sold, there are other properties available. According to Charlotte Christian, CHIP Grant Administrator, four additional homes are for sale.

“There is an additional property for sale at 401 Fern Street,” said Christian. “This is a three bedroom, two bath craftsman style home on a beautiful corner lot that is available for purchase now. There are also three additional homes that will begin construction between December and February. Purchasers of those properties will have the added excitement of participating in the decision-making process and choosing their own finishes.”

CHIP program funding is available to qualified low-moderate income buyers. Some buyers may be eligible to receive a subsidy in the form of a forgiven loan of up to $14,999 plus a discount on the cost of land. The program will complete a total of five homes for sale before July 2018. Four will be included in the Victoria Place area on properties owned by the Thomasville-Thomas County Land Bank Authority.
