THOMASVILLE FIRE RESCUE HOSTS 71ST BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR SPARKY THE FIRE DOG

Posted on

Sparky the Fire Dog®, the official mascot of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), celebrated his 71st birthday this week, reflecting on a legacy and impact that spans generations. Thomasville Fire Rescue celebrated Sparky’s birthday with Downtown preschool students, including a special visit from Chase the Police Dog, Sparky’s best friend.

“Many children in Thomasville are familiar with Sparky the Fire Dog, so we wanted to create a fun birthday celebration,” mentioned Tim Connell, City of Thomasville Fire Rescue Chief. “Showcasing Sparky during events keeps children aware of who he is and what he stands for.”

Over the years, the iconic fire dog has been used in many educational techniques to share important safety messages like “Stop, drop and roll” and “Dial 9-1-1.” Helping children understand fire safety messaging through Sparky has helped reduce fire loss and injuries.

Local Downtown preschools were able to interact with Sparky and enjoy a special birthday cake during the celebration. Some children even presented Sparky with handmade birthday gifts. Thomasville Fire Rescue provided each child with a special fire hat and fire safety materials to take home and enjoy. “It’s important to have events like this for the community,” noted Connell. “Keeping children engaged in interactive formats helps us promote fire safety.”
