Posted on

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Management Section in conjunction with the City of Thomasville, CNS, Thomasville YMCA, Kiwanis Club and Wal-Mart will sponsor the 2015 Fishing Rodeos for youth and senior adults. Both events are free to the public and will be held at Cassidy Road Pond.

The youth rodeo will be for kids 15 and under. Youth will compete in one of four age categories: 6 years & under, 7 – 9-year-olds, 10 – 12-year-olds and 13 – 15-year-olds. This event will take place Saturday, May 9, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The senior fishing rodeo will be held Wednesday, May 13, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Kiwanis members will be on-site to assist any novice anglers, ensuring that fun will be had by all. Hot dogs, chips and sodas will be provided for participants to enjoy. Prizes will be awarded to the top three fisherman of each age group and the first 200 youths will receive a t-shirt. Those interested can register the morning of the event.

For over 20 years this annual event has been bringing joy to the community and also has served as a great way to introduce the youth to outdoor recreation and to teach them respect for the environment.

“Cassidy Pond is fully stocked and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of fish being caught,” said Kha McDonald, City of Thomasville senior assistant city manager – human resources & community relations.

(Directions to Cassidy Road Pond – From downtown Thomasville head west on Madison Street to Carroll Hill, turn right on Cassidy Road. The pond is one mile on the right.).
