CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS, CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES

Posted on

Daylight saving time ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1. As you set your clocks back one hour, Thomasville Fire Rescue reminds you to check your smoke alarms.

Thomasville Fire Chief Tim Connell notes that three in five fire-related deaths occur in homes without working smoke alarms. “While you’re moving through your home and resetting clocks for the end of daylight saving time, it’s a good opportunity to replace your smoke alarm batteries, too,” Chief Connell says. “Every home should have working smoke alarms on each floor, inside every bedroom, and outside every sleeping area.”

It is important to check the manufacturer's date, batteries, and test smoke alarms. For smoke alarms powered by a nine-volt battery, a 10-year lithium battery, and hardwired alarms, test monthly, replace the batteries twice a year, and replace the alarm every 10 years.

Thomasville Fire Rescue offers free smoke alarms and testing for residents. Call 229-227-4099 for more information.
