FINAL COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO BE PRESENTED TO CITY COUNCIL

Posted on

Beginning this month, the work that more than 1,000 Thomasville citizens from all parts of the community have contributed to shaping the future of Thomasville will culminate in the final recommendation of the City’s comprehensive plan to the Thomasville City Council. City Planner Brian Herrmann said that this process has represented one of the largest public engagement initiatives ever by the City of Thomasville.

“We are very proud of the work that City staff and community members have put into the final document, which will provide the direction our community desires for future growth and development,” said Herrmann. “Blueprint: Thomasville 2028 is a very important document, as it sets the tone for Thomasville’s future, so it was vital that all sectors of the community participate in the process of creating the final plan.”

The next three weeks will offer additional opportunities for citizens to learn more about the comprehensive plan and the final recommendations, Herrmann explained. “We will first recommend adoption to the Planning and Zoning Commission during their meeting on July 10th. This meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, and the public is invited to attend.”

On July 18th, Jason King of Dover Kohl Partners will present the comprehensive plan to the City Council and answer any questions Councilmembers may have. The presentation will be during the City Council’s regular workshop session, which begins at 4:00 p.m. in the reception room of the Municipal Building.

“Jason is a familiar face to our community, as he has led all of our public input sessions that have been held over the last year,” said Herrmann. “Dover Kohl Partners has done an excellent job working hand in hand with not only City staff, but with all community participants to make sure that we are capturing the desires of all citizens. It has been a very rewarding experience for all of us to see this process unfold and to now be at the point of formally presenting the plan to Council.”

Blueprint: Thomasville 2028 will be presented to the City Council for adoption by resolution at the regular City Council meeting on July 23rd. “We’ll once again make a brief presentation to Council during the workshop session at 6 p.m. before making the final recommendation for adoption to the Council during the Council meeting at 7:00 p.m.,” said Herrmann. “The public is invited and encouraged to attend any or all of these presentations.”
