TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STEVENS STREET

Posted on

A portion of Stevens Street remains closed today after a water main burst last night. Emergency repairs were completed to a City of Thomasville Utilities water main located near the corner of Stevens Street and Jerger Street around 11 p.m., June 27, 2018. Water Department crews immediately responded and were able to complete emergency repairs and restore service to the several hundred customers that were impacted.

“I’m very proud of our Water Department, who were on the scene immediately after being notified of the main break last night,” said Chris White, Assistant Utilities Superintendent. “Unfortunately, the tremendous force and volume of the water undermined the pavement of Stevens Street, so it will remain closed for the safety of our community.”

White said that some temporary repairs have been made to Stevens Street, but more extensive asphalt repairs are not possible until the area has time to dry. “Once the area is more stable, our crews can then perform more extensive repairs to the area,” he said.

“Our Water Department did an outstanding job with their emergency response,” White said. “Their effort allowed us to minimize the damage to our infrastructure while promptly restoring service to our customers.”
