CITY OF THOMASVILLE ANNOUNCES RELOCATIONS OF DEPARTMENTS

The City of Thomasville has announced the relocation of multiple administrative departments. The changes are taking place to better meet the needs of customers.

“Our goal is to provide the best service possible to our customers and our community. As we looked for ways to elevate our customer experience, we identified some areas where we can reconfigure ourselves to provide better service,” said Alan Carson, City Manager. “These changes will be more convenient for our customers and will enhance the workflow and communication of some of our departments that previously were located in separate buildings.”

The following changes will be effective January 2021:

  • The Building Department’s inspection and code enforcement team, including the Chief Building Official, will be relocated to 411 West Jackson Street (the current Engineering Department building).
  • Permitting and development services, formerly located within the Building Department, will now join the Customer Care team and will be relocated to the first floor in the Administrative Building at 111 Victoria Place.
  • The Planning Department, which includes the City Planner and Zoning Administrator, will be relocated to the first floor of the Administrative Building.
  • Tax and Licensing have also relocated to this same area of the Administrative Building.

According to Sheryl Sealy, Executive Director of Marketing and Customer Services, the relocation of these departments will create a centralized location to support business and development services. “Customers can receive permits, apply for an occupational license, establish a utility account, and have their development and zoning questions answered in one location,” she said. “Although our offices remain closed to our customers, the relocations will increase our internal communication while preparing to serve our customers in an enhanced face to face environment when our offices re-open to the public.”

As part of the departmental relocations, the Human Resources and Risk Management Departments have relocated to the facilities that were formerly occupied by the Building Department, located at 413 West Jackson Street. “These two areas are closely related, but have been operating from separate locations,” said Carson. “This change will bring these two linked departments together. It also provides a more secure location for our Human Resources functions, which is very important right now in light of COVID-19.”

The final department to relocate is the Marketing Department, which has moved upstairs in the Administrative Building to the suite previously occupied by Human Resources. “Marketing touches every department within our organization, from Tourism and Main Street to Natural Gas and Electric,” said Sealy. “Our Marketing staff was moved to allow for the creation of our new business and development services wing, which will allow these departments to provide a more efficient experience for our customers.”

“The goal of Team Thomasville is to provide the highest level of customer service in the most convenient way possible,” said Carson. “We thank all of our customers for their flexibility and patience as we complete these important relocations.”
