THOMASVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT PATROLS TO TARGET SAFE TRAVEL

Posted on

Starting May 13, 2024, expect to see more Thomasville Police Officers actively observing traffic to take action against dangerous, aggressive, and high-speed drivers and to ensure drivers and passengers are properly wearing seat belts while traveling. Officers will take the opportunity to work additional shifts to specifically target traffic enforcement.

Every year, agencies in Georgia participate in Click It or Ticket and 100 Days of Summer H.E.A.T. enforcement during the Memorial Day travel period. These campaigns are designed to reduce fatal crash counts during Georgia’s deadly holiday driving period from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Law enforcement partners operate 100 Days of Summer H.E.A.T. in all corners of the state, looking for unsafe motorists, from drunk drivers and aggressive speeders to distracted drivers who continue to text while behind the wheel.

Click it or Ticket is meant to remind drivers and their passengers of the importance of buckling up and the legal consequences, including fines, for not wearing a seat belt. One of the safest choices drivers and passengers can make is to buckle up. According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the nationwide seat belt usage rate was 92% in 2023, and of the 37,133 people killed in motor vehicle crashes, 47% were not wearing seat belts. In 2017 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 14,955 lives and could have saved an additional 2,549 people if they had been wearing seat belts.

The Thomasville Police Department encourages drivers to prioritize safety, especially with increased summer traffic anticipated on the roads.
