CITY EARNS EXCELLENCE IN FINANCIAL REPORTING AWARD

For the seventeenth consecutive year, the City of Thomasville’s Financial Services Division has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award. The award is in recognition for the City’s 2017 Comprehensive Financial Report (CAFR).

“The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles,” said Ashley Cason, Chief Financial Officer for the City of Thomasville. “The goal is to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that are transparent while also recognizing individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.”

Cason said that the CAFR is prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. “Basically, the CAFR outlines the overall financial position of the organization,” she said. “This report provides critical information regarding the financial condition of our local government, demonstrating both accountability and stewardship of the revenues collected and the use of funds by the City of Thomasville.”

Professional staff from the GFOA, which is comprised of individuals with expertise in public sector financial reporting, is responsible for selecting the organizations that are honored with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence. The City was notified of their selection earlier this month.

“The fact that Thomasville has been recognized for this distinction for seventeen years is a testament to the professionals that comprise our Financial Services Division,” said Kha McDonald, Interim City Manager. “This award reflects the hard work of Ashley and her staff to provide an accurate and consistent reporting of the City of Thomasville’s financial activities. I am very proud of Ashley and the others members of this department.”
