CITY OF THOMASVILLE CELEBRATES NATIONAL PUBLIC POWER WEEK, PUBLIC NATURAL GAS WEEK AND CUSTOMER SERVICE WEEK

The City of Thomasville will observe National Public Power Week, Public Natural Gas Week, and Customer Service Week next week. These commemorations are meant to celebrate the benefits of locally owned utilities and the dedicated staff that make it possible.

“Our mission is to create and deliver exceptional service to our community through a culture of safety, courtesy, professionalism, and efficiency," said Chris White, Executive Director of Public Utilities. “Fulfilling our mission is possible in part because of the knowledgeable and experienced staff that comprises Team Thomasville.”

Public Power Week, celebrated October 4th – 10th, recognizes the importance of public power to our community, something that is especially important to Thomasville as it allows our community to operate without property taxes. Each year, more than 2,000 community-owned utilities, like City of Thomasville Utilities, observe Public Power Week to celebrate not-for-profit electric utilities proudly serving the electric power needs of about 40 million Americans – or almost 15 percent of electricity consumers. “It is an honor and a privilege to lead the talented men and women who work to provide our local community with reliable and safe electric service,” said White. “No words can properly express the appreciation that we have for the work and professionalism that they display while representing Team Thomasville.”

Public Natural Gas Week, also celebrated October 4th – 10th, is an annual nationwide event intended to build public awareness about the value of having a community-owned natural gas utility. There are approximately 1,000 public natural gas systems serving more than 5 million customers nationwide. “These public natural gas utilities are not-for-profit retail distribution entities that are owned by and accountable to the citizens they serve,” said White. “The City of Thomasville thanks the dedicated members of our Natural Gas Department who bring safe, reliable service to our community.”

National Customer Service Week, celebrated October 5th – 9th, was established by the International Customer Service Association (now named PACE) in 1984 and proclaimed a national event by the U.S. Congress in 1992. National Customer Service Week celebrates the men and women who provide exceptional customer service each day to the citizens of Thomasville. “This year’s theme, ‘Ignite a CX Celebration’, recognizes that 2020 has been a year unlike any other,” said Sheryl Sealy, Executive Director of Marketing and Customer Services. “This year, we have experienced events that have directly impacted the way in which we serve and engage with our customers, but our customer service staff have continued to deliver the exceptional service that is expected from Team Thomasville.”

“Each member of the Team Thomasville family values the opportunity to serve our customers,” said Sealy. “We are excited to celebrate National Public Power Week, Public Natural Gas Week, and Customer Service Week and the men and women who proudly serve our community.”

Citizens are invited to follow the week of celebration on the City of Thomasville Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofthomasville. “We have a great week of internal celebrations planned, and we encourage our citizens to participate by following our Facebook page to view the tributes we will be posting throughout the week,” said Sealy. “Team Thomasville is not only here to serve, we are here to share and educate our community about the different services we provide to our citizens each and every day.”

“Since March, our employees and the community as a whole have experienced a time like no other. However, our mission remains the same, to deliver exceptional service to our community,” said White. “We salute our employees for their dedication to customer service, and we thank our community for allowing us to serve them each day.”
