The City of Thomasville’s Financial Services Division recently earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award. The award is in recognition for the City’s 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
“Receiving this honor for the eighteenth consecutive year speaks volumes about the consistency of the accounting procedures that are in place within our Administration,” said Ashley Cason, City of Thomasville Chief Financial Officer. “The certificate of achievement is one of the highest forms of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting.”
Cason said that the GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles. “The goal is to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that are transparent while also recognizing individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal,” she said. “This report outlines critical information regarding the financial condition of our local government.”
The Certificate of Achievement Program Special Review Committee (SRC) of the GFOA, which is comprised of individuals with expertise in public sector financial reporting, is responsible for reviewing CAFR’s and selecting the organizations that have earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence.
“Our Financial Services Department does a tremendous job providing accountability, consistency, transparency and fiscal responsibility of the revenues collected and the use of funds by the City of Thomasville,” said Alan Carson, City of Thomasville City Manager. “We are thankful for the leadership of Ashley Cason and the tremendous amount of pride and attention to detail demonstrated by our Financial Services Team.”
