The City of Thomasville will open its popular discussion series, “Let’s discuss…”, on Tuesday March 17th with a focus on the trending nationwide topic of diversity. Karly Thomas, Program Manager for Learning and Development at Steelcase, Inc, in Grand Rapids, MI. will provide her expertise as presenter for the evening.
Thomas, a native of Thomasville, has worked with Steelcase for nearly five years and currently leads the group’s North America Implementation team. She previously served as a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Analyst where she was involved with strategically planning and implementing global diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. City staff said that Thomas’ ties to Thomasville and vast knowledge of diversity and inclusion issues make her uniquely qualified to lead this important discussion.
“We are excited to welcome Ms. Thomas for an important community discussion,” said Sherri Nix, Public Outreach Manager. “We hosted a similar discussion in 2018 that was very eye-opening and thought provoking. The session next week will, in many ways, continue that discussion while also further equipping our community with how to discuss sensitive topics respectfully.”
Nix said that the “Let’s Discuss…” event will focus on understanding what it means to be a diversified community. “The City of Thomasville has placed a major emphasis on increasing our diversity and inclusion efforts for our employees and residents,” said Nix. “Karly led a very powerful discussion with our internal team that we felt was important to continue with our entire community. We believe that discussing topics such as this with our residents is the best way to understand the definition of diversity in our community.”
“Let’s Discuss…Diversity” will be held on Tuesday, March 17th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Harper Elementary School Gym located at 520 Fletcher Street. For more information about the “Let’s Discuss…” series, contact Sherri Nix at 229-227-4154 or visit Thomasville.org.
