An improvement project is currently underway on Clay Street, between Ernest Street and Madison Street. The work being performed includes milling the existing pavement, asphalt overlay and full-depth spot patching in certain areas. Work began earlier this week and is expected to be completed near mid-October.
According to Wayne Newsome, City Engineer, there will also be some spot repair and replacement of curb, gutter, sidewalks and driveways located in the City’s right-of-way. “Once the repair work is completed, Clay Street will also be re-striped to add bicycle lanes in those areas where the existing roadway width will support those additions,” he said. Newsome said that there should be no road closures or detours during construction. “We urge residents, business owners, and others visiting the area to exercise caution,” he said. “While there may be some periodic disruptions to vehicular traffic, work crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to return the improved roadway to our community.”
