The City Council recognized a bright, young citizen during Monday’s meeting for being selected as the Georgia Municipal Association District 10 winner for the "If I Were Mayor, I Would..." essay contest. McKenna Williams is a sixth grade student at Thomas County Middle School.
Williams joined the Council during Monday’s meeting as an honorary city councilmember for the night. After the meeting, Mayor Max Beverly presented her with an engraved plaque in honor of her achievement and service as the honorary councilmember and took photos with her, her mother, Cynthia Williams, and her teacher, Mandy West.
Williams and the winners from Georgia’s other 11 districts will be recognized at an awards luncheon in Atlanta on May 18th, where she will be awarded a $250 check along with other prizes. This was the fifteenth annual contest sponsored by GMA.
