The City of Thomasville, in partnership with local veterans groups, is honored to present the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m. in Downtown Thomasville. The community is encouraged to attend the parade to celebrate the men and women who have served in our U.S. military.
Veterans Day officially became a national holiday in 1938. It’s a day to show respect and gratitude to those who were willing to serve our country. “The City of Thomasville supports active military men and women as well as honors those who have previously served,” says Madison Eaton, City of Thomasville events coordinator. “We encourage the community to join us as we show these brave men and women our support and appreciation for their service.”
November 9th is also Family Volunteer Day presented by Hands On Thomas County. HOTC will be in the Thomasville Visitors Center breezeway with poster boards and art supplies for creating signs to support and encourage our local veterans marching in the parade. If you would like to participate, join HOTC at 144 East Jackson Street at 9:00 a.m. before the parade to make a poster. “It is heart-warming to see Thomasville gather in support of those who have served our country,” said Eaton. “We appreciate our community volunteers who make a special effort to celebrate veterans, and we are excited for a fun morning in downtown Thomasville to celebrate with everyone.”
The Veterans Day Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. and proceed down Broad Street, beginning at Washington Street and ending at Remington Avenue. Kevin Lamb Photography will feature a photo exhibit on the Historic Thomas County Courthouse lawn. Each photo will represent a division of the military and promote conversation about local veterans who served.
On Monday, November 11th, the community is invited to join the local veterans groups as they hold a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Historic Thomas County Courthouse at 11:00 a.m.
