The City of Thomasville is proud to announce the establishment of its inaugural City of Thomasville Youth Council, a new initiative designed to engage, educate, and empower local high school students through hands‑on experiences in public service and municipal government.
Formed in partnership with Thomasville City Schools, the Youth Council was created through a collaborative nomination and selection process that invited school leadership to identify students who demonstrate leadership potential, civic interest, and a commitment to serving their community. This partnership ensures the Youth Council reflects a diverse group of student voices who are eager to explore how local government shapes everyday life.
“The Youth Council allows us to bridge the gap between our city government and the next generation of community leaders,” said Public Information Manager Ricky Zambrano. “Our collaboration with Thomasville High School enables us to identify students who are deeply committed to making a positive impact in their community while successfully balancing their academic responsibilities.”
The inaugural Youth Council will begin in the Fall of 2026 and includes the following students:
- Kamryn Shokat, Senior
- John Adeyeye, Junior
- Jayla Brooks, Junior
- Zachary Fann, Sophomore
- LillieBella Richardson, Sophomore
Youth Council members will serve staggered terms aligned with their current grade level, ensuring continuity in leadership and opportunities for mentorship among students.
“The structure of our Youth Council provides continuity within the council, fosters peer mentorship, and supports a sustainable leadership pipeline as students advance through high school,” said Zambrano. “Each spring, our partners at Thomasville High School will open the nomination and selection process to fill council openings.”
Zambrano noted that the Youth Council experience extends far beyond simply attending Council meetings and workshops. “Students will participate in monthly mentorship sessions with City Council members, take part in leadership courses led by City staff, and host Youth Council workshops where staff will present and discuss upcoming agenda items.”
“We are deeply grateful for our partnership with Thomasville City Schools, which is firmly rooted in our shared commitment to cultivating future leaders through the Youth Council initiative,” said City Manager Chris White. “I am confident that through the dedicated efforts of our staff, together with the educators of Thomasville High School, the Youth Council will gain an invaluable experience that will positively shape their futures and perhaps even inspire a future Mayor or City Manager.”
