ARCHEOLOGICAL STUDY DELIVERS POW SITE ARTIFACTS

An archeological dig that was completed in 2016 at the 1864 Civil War Prison Site has yielded results. Through a joint project by the Southeast Archeological Center, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the City of Thomasville, a study was conducted in 2016 to thoroughly exam the historic Prisoner of War site for any 19th and 20th century artifacts. THOMASVILLE FIRE RESCUE CELEBRATES 150 YEARS OF FIRE SERVICE

2017 was an important year for Thomasville Fire Rescue, as the department marked 150 years of service to the Thomasville community. On December 30th, TFR will formally recognize the occasion as well as the first line of duty death in the department, which occurred 100 years ago on December 30, 1917. CITY BUDGET TO BE PRESENTED TO COUNCIL

The City of Thomasville’s fiscal budget for 2018 will be presented to City Council on Monday, December 11, 2017. The proposed budget is $122,729,789 and, for the sixth straight year, includes no funding from property taxes. In lieu of property taxes, margins above the cost of providing services are transferred from the City’s utility funds to general government. TPD’S HARRIS ATTENDS FBI NATIONAL ACADEMY

Thomasville Police Department’s Shane Harris has completed the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy program in Quantico, Virginia. IMPROVEMENTS AHEAD FOR EAST JACKSON STREET

The City of Thomasville has announced an improvement project for East Jackson Street. Beginning the week of December 11th, 2017, East Jackson Street from Pinetree Boulevard to Crawford Street will be re-striped. PARK IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE

The City of Thomasville’s focus on improving public greenspaces has recently hit several milestones. Earlier this month, new playground equipment was unveiled at both Weston and MacIntyre Parks.
