The City of Thomasville Utilities’ Electric Department has been awarded the Electric Cities of Georgia 2017 Jeff Cook Award for Safety Excellence. Nine ECG members were named Jeff Cook Award recipients after selection by a peer review board. The review was based on a 23-point evaluation of every aspect of industry safety, including training, best practices and safety record.
The announcement of the 2017 award recipients was made during ECG’s annual conference. Electric Operations Manager Brent Alderman and Electric Linemen Travis Lamos, Jacob Gunn, and Jesse Mayfield attended the conference and received the award on behalf of the City of Thomasville Electric Department. Alderman expressed his appreciation to all of the electric staff for their commitment to safety.
“The commitment we have to safety is so ingrained in how we do our jobs that it goes mostly unnoticed by anyone outside of our ranks,” he said. “It’s truly an honor for our department to be recognized for the attentiveness we have toward maintaining the highest safety standards.”
Alderman said that it is a commitment to both excellence and safety that allows the department to earn awards such as the ECG Jeff Cook Award. “It is through diligently observing our safety procedures that our department is able to provide our customers with reliable electric service. We are very proud that our commitment to safety has been recognized through this award.”
The City of Thomasville began providing electric power in 1906. Today, the electric department serves more than 15,000 residential and commercial customers over a system comprised of 485 miles of electric lines and nine substations.
