We are excited to share more of Mr. Larry Davis’ story, our second unsung hero that we are saluting this month in honor of Black History Month. Our theme for this celebration is “The Power of One,” showing what one person can do to make a difference within his or her community. In case you missed it, Mr. Davis was selected because of his service to the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church community kitchen, which provides free meals for anyone who needs a hot meal each weekday. Mr. Davis is a Thomas County native and said that he grew up in Thomasville on Oak Street, where he learned the value of a community who looks out for their neighbor. He graduated with the last class of Douglass High School and went on to serve in the United States Airforce. He worked as a spray painter before retiring and entering his second career with the community kitchen. He has been managing the kitchen for the last two years and said that the organization is able to provide these hot meals because of generous donations. When asked how long he will continue working with the kitchen, he answered, “I don’t ever see myself NOT doing it. I intend to continue as long as I can and as long as the good Lord will let me.”
Thank you, Mr. Davis, for your contributions to our community!
