While everything is coming up roses this week in Thomasville, City officials are also celebrating the employees who bring it all together. “Georgia Cities Week” is being recognized across the state April 22-28, with the theme “Cities in the Spotlight”. This year’s theme highlights the ways municipalities improve the quality of life for residents and for the entire community.
“Thomasville is a great place to live, work and play,” said Mayor Greg Hobbs. “We are fortunate to have such a vibrant community, with the amenities and resources that provide our citizens with an excellent quality of life. That doesn’t just happen; it’s because of the dedicated employees of the City of Thomasville and the work they do every day to provide the services and infrastructure that are so important to our community.”
Cities across Georgia are celebrating Georgia Cities Week, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), as a way to showcase and celebrate cities and the many services they provide. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 521 member cities. Mayor Hobbs said that celebrating Georgia Cities Week is important because it honors the importance of Georgia cities and the role they play in the state’s history, economy and every-day activities of residents.
“We are very proud of our city, our staff and the services we provide that make Thomasville an attractive community for young millennials or people at retirement age,” said Hobbs. “Georgia Cities Week is the perfect opportunity to highlight the role the City of Thomasville plays in helping our businesses grow and our community to prosper.”
With the Rose Show and Festival kicking off this week, Mayor Hobbs said that, while a coincidence, it makes it the perfect time to celebrate the history of our community and the men and women who bring it all together.
“Events such as the Rose Show and Festival are huge economic engines for our community,” said Mayor Hobbs. “These events don’t just happen; they involve a great deal of coordination, planning and execution from nearly every single City department. It makes me very proud to not only represent the community, but also our organization. It takes everyone, pulling together as a team – and that is what Team Thomasville does best.”
