In response to the approaching severe weather from Hurricane Helene and following guidance from the National Weather Service and local weather authorities, the City of Thomasville, along with Thomas County, is implementing a mandatory curfew to ensure safety of all residents and to facilitate the work of emergency services.
Effective Thursday, September 26 at 6 pm until Friday, September 27 at 8 am, all non-essential travel and activities are prohibited during these curfew hours. Residents are required to stay indoors unless involved in an emergency response or essential services. Exemptions to this curfew include emergency responders (police, fire, medical services), essential workers (utilities, public works, healthcare), and other individuals or services as deemed necessary by local authorities. Failure to comply with the curfew will result in enforcement actions in accordance with local laws and regulations.
Public safety officials advise all residents to take immediate action to secure their homes and property. “The safety of our community is our top priority,” said Thomasville Police Chief Wade Glover. “Please stay informed, stay indoors, and adhere to the curfew restrictions. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
City of Thomasville Administrative offices will be closed to the public beginning at noon on Thursday, September 26 through Friday, September 27. The Thomasville Visitors Center will also be closed on Saturday, September 28. Changes in operational hours will impact all administration and non-operational staff. Utility staff and public safety will continue to be operational.
Utility customers should report all power outages to 229-227-5499 or through the City of Thomasville’s TextAlert program. Outages involving CNSNext services should be reported to 1-844-721-8029.
City of Thomasville residential solid waste schedules have changed due to the timing of the storm. Residential routes will remain as normal for Thursday customers, but service for Friday residential customers will be postponed and serviced on Saturday. Due to expected high winds, customers must roll containers from streets as soon as possible on Thursday.
