City of Thomasville Solid Waste, in partnership with Thomas County Solid Waste, Thomas County Code Enforcement and Keep Thomas County Beautiful, has announced an opportunity for Thomasville and Thomas County residents to dispose of used tires during Winter Tire Amnesty.
“This is a great way for residents to clear away any unwanted or unused tires they may have at no charge,” said Solid Waste Director Nate Tyler. “Accumulated, unused tires are more than just unsightly; they can also be unsafe. Unused tires pose both a fire hazard and can be a breeding ground for insects and rodents.”
Tyler said that the Winter Tire Amnesty will allow each household to dispose of a maximum of eight tires. Bicycle, car and light truck tires are all accepted. Tires must be de-rimmed, clean and dry.
“So far, we’ve collected more than 1,500 tires this year at tire amnesty events,” said Tyler. “We hope residents will take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of even more unwanted tires during the winter event.”
The Winter Tire Amnesty will be held December 8th – 10th from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Nine drop-off locations are available, including Hansell Rd., Stewart Rd., Woodruff Farm/Sunset Dr., Hwy 188 and 202, Hwy 84 East (Boston), Dillon Rd., Patten-Coolidge Rd., and Hwy 19 North at Riverwood. Tires are also accepted at the recycling center behind the Remington Avenue fire station.
