CITY COUNCIL RECOGNIZES MAY HONORARY COUNCILMEMBER EDDIE BROWN Article PhotoDuring the final City Council meeting of the month, Eddie Brown, Sr. (left) was recognized by Councilmember Terry Scott for his service to the community as the honorary councilmember for the month of May.

“This was a very informative experience,” Brown said. “We often talk about transparency and accountability; well I saw them both during my time with the City Council.”

Brown said that his time was very eye-opening and that it takes a lot to run the City of Thomasville.

“I wish more people would come to council meetings more often in order to see how the City runs, not just when something is wrong,” he added.

Born and raised in Thomasville, Brown graduated with a B.S. in Electronics Engineering from Fort Valley State University. Brown then retired after 32 years from the management staff of MillerCoors. Brown also served our country as a sergeant in the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army, where he earned the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster Medal and the Army Accommodations Medal while serving in the Republic of South Vietnam. Currently, he serves our community as one of three board members of the Thomas County Board of Tax Assessors. He also gives back to the community through mentoring programs hosted by the Thomasville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, which he holds the rank of polemarch/president.

At various times each year, councilmembers select a citizen to be the honorary councilmember. As an honorary councilmember, citizens serve for a period of one month, during which time they participate in council meetings and council-related committee meetings, in order to give them a first-hand account of what it takes to keep Thomasville running smoothly.
