Due to the inclement weather associated with the Winter Warning issued by the National Weather Service, City of Thomasville adminstrative offices wll observe a delayed opening on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Offices will open at 12 noon. Customers who wish to make a utility payment may do so using the Utilities Online link at Thomasville.org or by telephone by calling 227-7001. TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURE FOR STORM DRAIN REPAIR Beginning January 1, 2018, East Washington Street between North Hansell Street and North Mitchell Street will be closed to thru traffic. The street will be temporarily closed to replace a collapsed storm drain in the area. Traffic will be redirected around the repair area during this time. CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN AT CHEROKEE LAKE

Construction is set to begin next month at Cherokee Lake Park. The project, which was started last summer, will include repairs to the spillway dam and a widened trail on the west side, among other repairs and enhancements. The project will also connect the park’s walking paths to the 15-mile Community Trail, which will ultimately connect all city parks and neighborhoods. ARCHEOLOGICAL STUDY DELIVERS POW SITE ARTIFACTS

An archeological dig that was completed in 2016 at the 1864 Civil War Prison Site has yielded results. Through a joint project by the Southeast Archeological Center, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the City of Thomasville, a study was conducted in 2016 to thoroughly exam the historic Prisoner of War site for any 19th and 20th century artifacts. 2017 was an important year for Thomasville Fire Rescue, as the department marked 150 years of service to the Thomasville community. CITY BUDGET TO BE PRESENTED TO COUNCIL

The City of Thomasville’s fiscal budget for 2018 will be presented to City Council on Monday, December 11, 2017. The proposed budget is $122,729,789 and, for the sixth straight year, includes no funding from property taxes. In lieu of property taxes, margins above the cost of providing services are transferred from the City’s utility funds to general government.
