DUKES RECEIVES CHIEF TRAINING OFFICER DESIGNATION Article PhotoThomasville Fire Rescue’s Chief of Training Craig Dukes recently completed the process that awards the professional designation of “Chief Training Officer” (CTO). The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) met on October 2, 2018 to confer the designation. Receiving the designation makes Dukes one of only 124 Certified Training Officers worldwide.

“I am very honored to receive such a distinguished designation,” said Dukes. “Earning this distinction shows that as a department, TFR is committed to a level of excellence where our training programs are concerned, and I am proud to be a part of setting that standard.”

The Designation program is a voluntary program designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate their excellence in seven measured components including experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement, and technical competence. In addition, all applicants are required to identify a future professional development plan.

The CTO designation program uses a comprehensive peer review model to evaluate candidates seeking the credential. The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) awards the designation only after an individual successfully meets all of the organization’s stringent criteria.

Thomasville Fire Rescue Chief Chris Bowman, a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) CPC designee since 2011, said receiving such an honor is no easy feat: “I am proud to see Chief Dukes represent the City of Thomasville Fire Department in this capacity. His hard work both with the department and within our community does not go unnoticed. Achieving this designation signifies Chief Dukes commitment to his career in the fire and emergency services.”

This professional designation is valid for three years. Maintaining the designation requires recipients to show continued growth in the areas of professional development, professional contributions, active association membership and community involvement as well as adhere to a strict code of professional conduct.

Chief Dukes has been in the fire service since 1996 and with Thomasville Fire Rescue since 2002. He has been the Chief of Training since 2013.

The Commission on Professional Credentialing, an entity of the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc., (CPSE) administers the Designation Program. The CPC consists of individuals from academia, federal and local government, and the fire and emergency medical services profession. To learn more about CPC, visit www.cpse.org.
