PINK HEALS FIRE TRUCK COMING TO THOMASVILLE

THOMASVILLE, GA – October 6, 2016 – What do you get when you combine breast cancer awareness with fire safety and education? You get a pink fire truck! To celebrate October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Fire Prevention Month, Thomasville Fire Rescue will host the Pink Heals Fire Truck.

“I’m excited the Pink Heals Fire Truck is coming to our community, since its purpose is to raise awareness for an important cause,” said Fire Chief Chris Bowman. “Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in the United States, and we know that early detection and treatment is key in fighting this disease. TFR is proud to be a part in bringing awareness to this disease and the fight to end it.”

There are an estimated 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Breast cancer ranks second as a cause of cancer death in women. However, early detection and treatment can make all the difference; stage 1 breast cancer, for example, has a nearly 98% survival rate when caught and treated early.

“Our motto is ‘Every Home, Every Life,’ and this is just one more way we can help our community stay safe and healthy,” said Bowman. “If through our efforts to bring attention to fire safety and education we can also shed some light on breast cancer awareness, then we’ve done our job.

Bowman adds that in an effort to raise awareness, TFR members will be wearing pink t-shirts during the month of October.

“A firefighter in a bright pink shirt draws a certain amount of attention, and through that attention, we have an opportunity to raise awareness,” Bowman said. “We are just as proud to wear the pink t-shirts as we are to wear our turnout gear and fight a fire; both are important to the wellbeing of our community.”

The pink t-shirts are for sale, and proceeds will be donated to a local Pink Heals fundraising effort for breast cancer research. To purchase, contact Carrie Hurst, TFR Administrative Assistant, at carrie.hurst@thomasville.org or 2274099.

The Pink Heals Fire Truck will be displayed at Station 1 on Saturday, October 8th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Station 1 is located at 100 South Crawford Street in downtown Thomasville. To learn more about the Pink Heals Fire Truck, visit www.pinkfiretruck.org.
