TFR AND TPD PERSONNEL RECEIVE COVID-19 VACCINE

Thomasville Fire Rescue Chief Tim Connell and Thomasville Police Department Chief John Letteney recently received their COVID-19 vaccinations. Connell and Letteney hope that their vaccinations, along with those received by additional TFR and TPD personnel, will assist with community confidence in the vaccine and help stop the spread of the virus.

“The health and safety of our team members are an important factor in ensuring the Thomasville Police Department is fully staffed and able to serve our community,” said Chief Letteney. “The vaccine is a critical way by which we can help protect ourselves and others from the spread of COVID. I am being vaccinated today, and encourage all first responders to do the same.”

Chief Connell states that his decision to be vaccinated is about the community. “We have to lead by example. By getting this shot, I feel we are showing the citizens we care about their safety and wellbeing as we serve them.” Connell added, “My hope is that receiving the vaccine will allow me to answer any questions or concerns the community or my personnel may have about the process.”

Connell believes that it is critical for front line responders to be vaccinated to continue serving the community in the safest possible manner. “TFR, along with our partners at the Thomas County Emergency Medical Services and local healthcare facilities, are the leaders on the front line helping to fight this virus. We are in the trenches responding to COVID-19 calls and must do our part to protect ourselves so we can continue to protect the citizens of this great city.” Connell says that the TFR has always done everything possible to serve the community in the safest possible manner and has remained focused on this honor during these times of uncertainty.

According to Letteney, the vaccine will not change the current precautionary actions the TPD is taking to protect the community. “As our personnel receives the vaccine, it will be important that we continue following CDC guidelines and taking necessary precautions, like social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands, and practicing good hygiene. Together, as a strong unified community, we can all take the actions necessary to overcome and defeat this virus.”

The State of Georgia is currently in Phase 1A of its vaccine distribution. The phase, which initially prioritized frontline healthcare workers, was recently expanded to include firefighters, law enforcement officers, and adults aged 65 and older.
