CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS, CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES

Posted on

Daylight saving time ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 2. As you set your clocks back one hour, Thomasville Fire Rescue reminds you to check your smoke alarms.

According to Thomasville Fire Chief Tim Connell, three out of five fire deaths occur in homes without working alarms. “As you’re moving around your home and adjusting your clocks for daylight saving time, it just makes sense to remember to change your smoke alarm batteries at the same time,” says Chief Connell. “Homes should have working smoke alarms on every floor, in every bedroom, and outside each sleeping area.”

It is important to check the manufacturer's date, batteries, and test smoke alarms. For smoke alarms powered by a nine-volt battery, a 10-year lithium battery, and hardwired alarms, test monthly, replace the batteries yearly, and replace the alarm every 10 years.

Thomasville Fire Rescue offers free smoke alarms and testing for residents. Call 229-227-4099 for more information.
