CITY OF THOMASVILLE HOLDING COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT INFORMATIONAL MEETING

Posted on

The City of Thomasville is applying for a 2018 Community Development Block Grant for infrastructure and housing improvements in the Fletcherville neighborhood area. “These grants can potentially be used for home improvement projects like new windows, roofing, and unstable foundations,” says Lauren Radford, City of Thomasville outreach and engagement director. “The possibilities are exciting- we need the community’s help to enter a successful grant application for consideration.”

Several City of Thomasville employees and volunteers delivered information door to door on Saturday afternoon. “Knocking on doors gave us an opportunity to speak with local residents to help build trust in the community and answer preliminary questions about the grant,” said Kha McDonald, Interim City Manager.

Residents who live within the grant consideration area (see map below) are invited to attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, March 6th, 2018 at 6:00PM at the Disciples of Jesus Ministries (228 Augusta Avenue) to learn more about how to qualify for a grant.

“To qualify for grant funds, the property must be located within the designated area,” said Radford. “You must also own your property and hold a deed in your name.”

Other requirements for the CDBG housing improvement grant are that the homeowner must be 62 years or older and meet specific income requirements. For more information about this project or the application process, please contact Martha Reynolds, neighborhood planner at 229-227-4008.
