Daylight saving time ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3. As you set your clocks back one hour, remember to check your smoke alarms.
“Homes should have working smoke alarms on every floor, in every bedroom, and outside each sleeping area,” says Thomasville Fire Chief Tim Connell. He emphasizes that three out of five fire deaths occur in homes without working alarms.
It is important to check the manufacturer's date, batteries, and test smoke alarms. For smoke alarms powered by a nine-volt battery, a 10-year lithium battery, and hardwired alarms, test monthly, replace the batteries yearly, and replace the alarm every 10 years.
Thomasville Fire Rescue offers free smoke alarms and testing for residents. Call 229-227-4099 for more information.
