Officer Rachel Pineda with the Thomasville Police Department has been chosen as Officer of the Year for her heroic act in 2023. Pineda’s brave efforts and willingness to share a personal experience with an individual experiencing a mental crisis de-escalated the situation, ultimately saving that individual’s life.
“Officer Pineda is a hero, and we know that she will continue to do great things in our community,” expressed Chief Wade Glover. “Her bravery in a time of need proves that the well being of Thomasville’s citizens are our number one priority.”
The Officer of the Year Award is presented annually to a well-rounded law enforcement officer who has exceeded the duty requirements expected of his or her position and has demonstrated a distinct pattern of community service coupled with professional achievement. The award also takes into account heroic acts.
“A major secondary purpose of this award is to encourage further development of department successes through continued recognition of law enforcement officers,” noted Glover. “It is firmly believed this award serves to promote public trust and support of our law enforcement agencies.”
Officer Pineda began her career with the City of Thomasville in 2018 as a Customer Care Specialist. Since then, she has progressed through several departments, eventually joining the Thomasville Police Department.
