While many children spend their days glued to video games, smart phones and computers, there are still a number of Thomasville youth who spend their time playing outside and engaging in neighborhood sports. Unfortunately, the Thomasville Police Department has received numerous complaints about children playing basketball in streets and roadways. TPD SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON IMPROVING SERVICE

The Thomasville Police Department has launched an online survey to help assess the current perception of law enforcement service to the community. The survey is being conducted in partnership with the Thomas University Division of Social Work. PLANNING & ZONING COMMITTEE NAMES OFFICERS, PLANS PUBLIC HEARING

The Thomasville Planning and Zoning Commission met earlier this month to chart 2017 initiatives and elect officers. The Commission is responsible for working to engage the public in the planning process, a process that can involve comprehensive planning, zoning and the implementation of a comprehensive plan. TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF WEST JACKSON STREET

Beginning Monday, January 30, 2017, the City of Thomasville will begin repairing the brick pavers on West Jackson Street from South Madison to Remington Avenue. As a result, this section of West Jackson Street will be closed to thru traffic. “The historic pavers in this section of downtown Thomasville were uncovered a few years ago,” said Wayne Newsome. “Our goal in performing this maintenance is to hopefully create smoother travel through this area. TEMPORARY STREET CLOSING FOR WASTEWATER REPAIR

Beginning Monday, January 30, 2017, Lansing Street from West Walcott to Georgia Avenue will be closed to thru traffic. The street will be temporarily closed to facilitate a wastewater main replacement. Traffic will be redirected around the construction zone during this period. The detour route will be to Georgia Avenue, for access to Israel Ave. Construction is expected to be complete by Tuesday, February 7, 2017. STORM RESTORATIONS CONTINUE

City of Thomasville Utilities are continuing with restoration efforts and as of Tuesday afternoon, seven outages impacting about 45 customers remained. UPDATE ON STORM DAMAGE

The weekend’s severe weather outbreak took a final swipe at Southwest Georgia as storms moved across the Thomasville area Sunday afternoon. Prior to the afternoon incident, power outages from Sunday morning were mostly restored, with about 300 customers remaining without service. Early morning storms ripped through Thomasville and Thomas County, leaving more than 2,750 utility customers without power.
