TOURISM IN THOMASVILLE CREATES ECONOMIC IMPACT

The Georgia Department of Economic Development has released the 2015 study of Travel Economic Impact on the state of Georgia, counties and regions and according to Tourism Director Bonnie Hayes, the numbers show that tourism means big business for Thomasville. “I think many people are surprised to hear about the economic impact tourism has locally,” said Hayes. “In 2015, the tourism industry supported more than 600 local jobs and generated $67.6 million in direct tourist...

SUNDAY ALCOHOL SALES PASS; EFFECTIVE MAY 1ST

The results are in, and Thomasville voters overwhelming supported a referendum that would allow the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages on Sundays in the city of Thomasville. The new law will go into effect on Monday, May 1st, making Sunday, May 7th the first Sunday that alcohol can be purchased. During a recent Thomasville City Council Workshop session, a summary report was shared of the 2016 impact from the Thomasville Main Street Downtown Development Program. STEVENS STREET CLOSED FOR IMPROVEMENTS

The one-way section of South Stevens Street, from West Jackson Street to Remington Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Monday, March 20, 2017 for complete re-construction. The roadway will be reconstructed with sidewalk, curb and gutter, and new asphalt paving. It is expected to take at least three weeks to complete this construction. Four Thomasville Fire Rescue recruits graduated from the Georgia Fire Academy in Forsyth Georgia on Thursday, March 2, 2017. TFR firefighter recruits and recent Academy graduates are Richard Britt, Daniel Oliva, Hailee Roberts, and Nathaniel Thomas. CITY CELEBRATES LEGACY OF LT. HENRY O. FLIPPER

On March 17th at 12 noon, the City of Thomasville and the West Point Society of Tallahassee will host an event at the Flipper Cemetery that will unveil a new bronze burial marker for Lt. Henry O. Flipper and granite markers for his parents. BRICK REPAIRS CONTINUE ALONG WEST JACKSON STREET

Beginning Monday, February 20, 2017, the City of Thomasville will resume repairing the brick pavers on West Jackson Street from South Madison to Stevens Street. EMERGENCY BRICK REPAIR SCHEDULED FOR EAST JACKSON STREET

Beginning Thursday, February 16, 2017, the eastbound lane on East Jackson Street, from Broad Street to Crawford Street, will be closed to thru traffic.
