THOMASVILLE RECOGNIZES JULY AS NATIONAL PARKS & RECREATION MONTH

Posted on

This month, the City of Thomasville is celebrating Parks and Recreation Month, highlighting how parks and recreation contribute to the strength, vibrancy, and resilience of the community. There are a variety of activities for residents of all ages and abilities to participate in to celebrate recreational activities and how they are more than just fun and games.

The City is marking Parks and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), by inviting the community to share their experiences, memories, and stories about what parks and recreation mean to them. From taking a stroll around Cherokee Lake Park to joining the Junior Golf Camp at Country Oaks Golf Course, there are plenty of ways to celebrate.

Mike Owens, Manager of Parks/Recreation and Golf, stated, “The City aims to create a sense of belonging by providing inclusive recreational facilities, essential services for all ages and abilities, and safe, accessible spaces to build meaningful connections.” Owens went on to say, “We are excited to showcase our parks on social media by sharing photos, videos, and interviews, and introducing our hardworking staff who help maintain the beauty and allure of our parks.”
The community is also invited to a free National Parks and Recreation Month celebration on July 12 from 12-1 pm at The Ritz Amphitheater. In partnership with the City’s Summer Reading Program, the event will feature reading activities, outdoor games, music, and Italian ice.

The NRPA and the City of Thomasville encourage everyone who supports parks and recreation to share how it has fostered belonging, along with why their local parks and recreation professionals are important to them, on social media using “#WhereYouBelong.”
