The City of Thomasville is committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in or denied the benefits of its services on the basis of race, color, or national origin, as protected by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Title VI provides that "no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Any person who believes that he or she, as a member of a protected class, has been discriminated against denied participation in, or is being denied benefits of the services, programs or activities provided by any Department in The City of Thomasville or otherwise being discriminated against because of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability, may contact the City’s Title VI Coordinator.

A grievance may be communicated in writing, by mail, email or in person, but must follow the format of the City of Thomasville's complaint form in order to gather all pertinent information for complaint processing. The grievance should be filed within 180 days of the grievant party becoming aware of the alleged violation.

A complaint made in person must be reduced to writing, and the complainant must sign an original copy of the completed complaint form in order for the City to begin the complaint process. The complaint may be submitted by a representative on behalf of another person. A complainant's identity shall be kept confidential except to the extent necessary to conduct an investigation, and all complaints shall be kept confidential.

Generally, a complaint should include pertinent information such as the name, address and telephone number of the individual complaining (complainant) and a brief description of the alleged discriminatory conduct including the date of harm. Additionally, the full name and address of the respondent - the person, agency, department, or program that allegedly discriminated against the complaint, is needed. An individual submitting a complaint alleging discrimination may also include any relevant evidence, including the names of witnesses and supporting documentation.


Disability Access Office

The City of Thomasville’s Disability Access Office (DAO) serves as the Citywide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II and the Rehabilitation Act Sections 504 and 508 Coordinator. DAO partners with all City Departments to meet compliance requirements including the ADA and other disability laws and accessibility codes and standards.

The City of Thomasville’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DEIA) Department centralizes the City's efforts to prioritize and operationalize accessibility and inclusivity across departments and services. DEIA is the centralized location for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local legislation and monitoring, assessing, and developing performance measures for fair delivery of City services.


Language Access Services

The City of Thomasville is committed to ensuring meaningful access to programs, activities, services, and information for all it’s citizens, including individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP).

The City of Thomasville takes reasonable steps to provide individuals with LEP meaningful access to it’s programs or activities. These include providing free written translation of documents and oral interpretation services from qualified interpreters—including staff members, contractors, language lines, or video remote technology—to citizens.

**An individual with LEP is a person who does not speak English as their primary language and who has a limited ability to read, speak, write, or understand English.
