TPD PARTICIPATING IN OPERATION ZERO TOLERANCE CAMPAIGN

Posted on

Thomasville Police Department’s law enforcement officers will target impaired drivers during the upcoming wave of Operation Zero Tolerance. The campaign began Monday, June 24 at 6 am and lasts until midnight Sunday, June 30.

Operation Zero Tolerance is Georgia's High Visibility Enforcement program that focuses on apprehending impaired drivers through concentrated patrols and sobriety checkpoints. Throughout this year's enforcement campaign, police officers will collaborate to safeguard everyone from impaired drivers during this busy time of the year.

Wade Glover, Chief of Police, emphasized the high cost of driving while impaired, stating, "When it comes to drinking and driving, you can't afford it...If you drink and drive, you will lose."

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every day, about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that's one person every 39 minutes. In 2022, 13,524 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths. These deaths were all preventable.

Chief Glover encourages careful planning for summer activities. If you plan to drive, don't drink, he said. Choose a designated driver and if you see a suspected impaired driver, notify law enforcement.
